ABOUT THE PROGRAM
According to the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities, "learning disabilities" is a "general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities." A learning disability is presumably due to central nervous system dysfunction, and is not primarily due to other handicapping conditions, environmental, or cultural influences. It is not a form of mental retardation, or an emotional disorder.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR LD STUDENTS
Requirements that may be waived for LD students: Applicants with learning disabilities must follow the same application procedure as all applicants. Special admission may be requested through the Learning Disability Program if the applicant has a deficiency in course entrance requirements. The Director of the LD program provides recommendations on the admissibility of those students who do not meet regular admission requirements.
The admissions process is equivalent to disabled as to non-disabled. Applicants with LD and ADHD must follow the same application procedure as non-disabled applicants.
Occasionally the special admission would consider disabled applicants whose applications do not meet admission criteria. After the applicant receives a letter of non-acceptance, the applicant should contact the disabilities office for further directions. The shortfall may be evaluated in light of the presence and severity of disability.
If the applicant can demonstrate the presence and severity of current disability, as well as functional limitation, in the form of current documentation provided by a qualified heath or education provider, then the disability counselor could use this data to appeal to the admissions counselor. Disability related appeal is available only to applicants with current severe disability that substantially disrupts or impairs learning.
Requirements for LD applicants: diagnostic test(s) are required
Untimed tests are accepted: yes
